Rudolf Khatchatrian

Armenian artist (1937-2007)

“The spirit of Leonardo is alive!” exclaimed the famous Yervand Kochar, when he first saw the works of fifteen-year-old Rudolf Khachatryan. Most materials about the work of the talented Armenian graphic artist begin with the story of this fateful meeting..

Rudolf Khachatryan was born in 1937 in Yerevan. His artistic abilities manifested themselves in childhood, and already in 1955 the graphic works of the talented young man were presented at republican exhibitions, earning special attention from viewers.

The portraits he created with ocher pencil are distinguished by their exceptional technical execution and classical purity of line. He also used ink, a reddish chalk pencil (sanguine), a pen and a brush. His works have been exhibited in dozens of countries, receiving awards and prizes
