THE METAMORPHOSES OF RUDOLF KHACHATRYAN
A RETROSPECTIVE exhibition of works entitled "Metamorphoses" by Rudolf Khachatryan has opened at the Central House of Artists. It presents the artist's work from the late fifties to the present day. In the first room are works in a realist manner — landscapes of Armenia, elegant still lifes, a series of portraits. The greater part of the works, however, was made by the artist during the past three years, which he spent in England. That time was extraordinarily fruitful for him. He worked literally day and night, leaving one or two hours for sleep. In three years he made 800 pictures. The artist's manner has changed beyond recognition. He is returning to "open forms", having travelled the road from realism to modernism. His compositions, executed in an expressive, surrealist manner, arouse a feeling of anxiety and stir the mind.
The exhibition runs from 19 November to 16 December. Its sponsor is the Sobi concern. After organizing performances by Mstislav Rostropovich and Maya Plisetskaya, this is its third undertaking.
