HOME IN PASSING
His last exhibition in Yerevan was in 1989 — a charity exhibition for the refugee fund. After that the living classic of contemporary Armenian painting, Rudolf Khachatryan, left for London. Those six years in foggy Albion proved exceptionally fruitful — 800 works were made, marking a new stage in the artist's work. More exactly, a synthesis of the new with what went before, as R. Khachatryan himself put it.
In 1993 the largest exhibition, covering all the periods of his work — "The Beginning", "Open Forms", "Minimalism", "The Period of Two-in-Oneness" and others — was held at the House of the Artist in Moscow. The latest of them, "Metamorphoses", is in fact unknown to us. But there is hope that in September, at the National Gallery, we shall have the chance to meet, to see and to admire the old-and-new Rudolf Khachatryan.
Passing through Yerevan, R. Khachatryan brought a splendid catalogue of his works, published with the financial support of the Sotbi concern.
Well then, let us wait for the autumn.
